Let us know if any of that solves the problem. Basics - Help menu > Tutorials Manual - Inkscape. if they can make the new icon unremovable - Aarrgh) (See what I mean - distraction) Not that Ive ever known Inkscape to do this. I haven't discovered any others, although I'm not the snapping expert And there may be a snap distance where you can avoid it snapping to the grid line, and still not have it set to 'Always snap'. Oh snap, I cant use this app To make a pixel-perfect gap Hi, I cant snap nodes to grid when editing an object (F2 ). There may be some other situations where this could happen, I'm not sure. So you may be able to avoid snapping to the grid line, by not being zoomed very much, and not have to change the settings in Doc Prop. If I'm not zoomed in very much, it can't happen. If I change it instead to "Snap when closer than" and make the distance 1 (which makes the weakest snap), AND I'm zoomed in far enough, I can make the bbox corner snap to a grid line. toggle grids and snapping to grids: If you want to see the grids but not snap to them, use the global snapping toggle ( key). That makes what I call a very strong snap. In my Document Properties, I have Snap to Grid set to Always Snap. Well at least I discovered one situation where this could happen. Is that a raster image that you're trying to snap? If so, then it looks like you have a pixel grid? I guess the first thing is to make sure that only "Snap bbox corners" and "Snap to grid" are selected on the snap control bar. Which options are selected in your snap control bar? This way, the other 3 corners dont compete trying to snap. For example, if you want to align the top left corner of an odd-sized rectangle to a grid, grab the rectangle near its top left corner. If developers in the PDN group are going to dismiss this as trivial that the OP should look into, then perhaps I could look into it as well.Hhm, I can't seem to reproduce your scenario where the bbox corner snaps to a grid line and not a grid intersection. When doing an object translation with the mouse, the node in the dragged object nearest to the mouse pointer will be selected for snapping. Is the source code for PDN still open to the public? I thought it went private a few years back. I am not the best at GDI+, but I can give a line a color and draw it from one PointF to the next. I am a decent C# guy, but mostly with databases, forms, and DataGridView controls. When the program detects mouse movement (like what is shown in the status bar) and some new menu item (Image -> Snap to Grid) is checked, then the mouse coordinates would be rounded to the nearest x and y grid point. Try switching them all off except for the three you need. Perhaps you have too many snapping options switched on, leading to conflicts. I use PDN often to design stuff for myself before I try taking pics out to a machine shop to be built (they roll their eyes at me if I bring in a hand sketch and assume I don't know what I'm talking about). Snapping midpoints of bounding boxes works for me. Many consider this a core-feature, so I don't think it would be out-of place to have it in. This feature might not seem very necessary if you aren't used to having it, but it is a huge help, and I can't imagine it being very difficult to implement it is a relatively basic feature. to help the user position the various elements. The grid would preferably have thicker lines every 5, 10 or 15 lines, etc. It would work pretty much exactly like the grid already in place, except you would not be limited to working only with individual pixels, but rather groups of pixels as you zoom further out. Inkscape snap to grid is very useful feature of Inkscape which helps us a lot during working on our designing work in this software and you can understand it like a magnet which attracts iron towards it if it come near that magnet that means if you move cursor pointer near to points of grid then cursor pointer will automatically snap with that p. If you need to know more specifically what I'm looking for, then it's basically what you have in Adobe Illustrator or any decent 3D modelling software you will ever come across. I don't assume there has been made any plugins to cater this need since earlier posts on the matter, so I'm hoping to persuade developers to implement the feature in a new version of instead. The topic has been brought up before, but I'm hoping to hear of any news on the possibility of implementing it. Under creation, choose rectangular or axonometric and then click new. I'm looking for an option to adjust the grid size and to snap-to-grid.įor some purposes, you can find a way around this, but it is a pain when working on a project that requires perfect precision. To create a grid, go to document properties and click on the grids tab.
